Repro Solidarity Statement
Ohio Women’s Alliance aligns in solidarity with folks in Texas fighting for the right to obtain safe, legal abortion. While the realm of reproductive feminism has historically been limited to abortion rights, Ohio Women’s Alliance centers the full experience of womxn of color, including abortion access, maternal healthcare, criminal justice, economic justice, education, and wellness.
Our role has always been capacity-building with community leaders across the state because we know that when women thrive, our communities thrive. Many of the leaders we support have organized an Abortion Justice Day of Action on Tuesday, September 28, at 12:30 PM at the Ohio Statehouse. Rather than promoting the upcoming Women’s March events, we’re following the leadership of women of color, queer folks, and those involved in the Abortion Justice Day of Action because they have been consistently organizing in our communities and holding elected officials accountable for the harmful bills that have come out of the Ohio Legislature. Marches and acts of protest have always been critical components of our democracy, and our role is to support the leaders of these movements.
We must do more than performative solidarity actions to reduce further harm against a majority anti-abortion legislature. A legislature that not only actively restricts bodily autonomy but is attempting to obstruct our voting rights, accurate history of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, and the right to protest. Other ways you can support BIPOC people who are doing the work in our community is by supporting Ohio Women's Alliance Action Fund's Reproductive Justice advocacy, centering policy and its impact on womxn, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, AAPI, queer, trans, differently-abled, and working-class womxn in the state of Ohio. You can do so by showing up and testifying against harmful bills and supporting our work by donating here.
