Deputy Director Position

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Co-Executive Directors, the Deputy Director will manage our civic engagement and electoral campaigns for the Ohio Women’s Alliance and the Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund to mobilize our members towards building power and long-term change for sustainability and political wins. This role works closely with the Co-Executive Directors to implement the strategic priorities of both Ohio Women’s Alliance and Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund. The Deputy Director will manage a team of program managers and fellows to execute these bodies of work.
Please note: this is a new position as a result of our exponential growth over the past two years. We are extremely excited to grow our team and the new Deputy Director will have the ability to lead the hiring of two direct reports--program manager roles--in the first six months of their onboarding. Because Deputy Director is a new role for Ohio Women’s Alliance, we have tried our best to be as inclusive as positive regarding the scope of work for this role.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Create an infrastructure and pathway for our membership base--the Reproductive Justice Cooperative--to function successfully, with increased engagement and representation to identify community solutions and provide services to increase gender and racial equity.
Drive statewide strategy across all OWA programmatic work and campaigns, identify strategic opportunities for OWA Reproductive Justice Cooperative members and leaders for political influence and success.
Manage RJ Cooperative membership programming, OWA organizers, and eventually, managers with statewide civic and electoral campaigns.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, both national and in-state, to advance OWA's political and organizational strategy.
Participate in key national and state coalition tables that drive OWA Reproductive Cooperative political and policy campaigns forward.
Develop political campaign strategy and plans to move critical state legislation that impacts Reproductive Justice Cooperative members.
Manage civic engagement programs, including maintaining key political relationships with electoral organizations and funders; identify funding opportunities and develop civic engagement, and electoral grant proposals.
Support Co-Executive Directors with fundraising for programmatic work.
Support leadership development by building up a deep bench of Reproductive Justice Cooperative leaders who will be informed, trained, and mobilize on core OWA policy campaigns.
Support internal OWA coordination on organizational priorities.
Support the Communications and Digital team to further refine data infrastructure, maintenance, analysis, and tracking campaign & membership outcomes.
Qualifications:
Shares the progressive values of Reproductive Justice, Health, & Rights
A personal and professional commitment to ongoing development as an anti-racist leader
Past experience in a management role or higher
Demonstrated ability to effectively build and sustain durable relationships with a wide variety of people
Five years of relevant experience in organizing, advocacy, coalition building, and/or electoral campaigns
Strong project management, time management, and planning skills, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive projects forward independently
Familiarity with data and metrics for analyzing political engagement, voting patterns, demographics, and the impact of civic engagement campaigns
Fluency with Google suite, including Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Slides, and Drive
Experience with any of the following platforms is a plus, though not required (training will be provided): EveryAction; Hustle; Spoke; Reach; Slack; VAN
A plus but not required: familiarity with the political landscape and ecosystem of Reproductive Justice, Health and Rights-oriented organizations and agencies in Ohio

Start Date, Compensation & Benefits
This position is fully remote aside from travel to mandatory staff gatherings, strategic planning sessions, events, or in-person lobbying events. Our candidate must live in Ohio; we will offer a moving stipend of $2,500 for a strong candidate that lives in another state to relocate.
The annual salary for this position is $75,000. This is a full-time, exempt position based on a 35-40 hour workweek. The majority of our work takes place during the hours of 10:00 am to 6:00 pm EST, but there may be instances where evening or weekend hours are needed in support of events or urgent initiatives.
We understand that staff have personal, family, and community obligations and have a flexible workplace to support these needs. We offer 12 paid holidays and 20 days of PTO each year as well as medical, dental, and health insurance. We offer a 403b program with a 2% match without a required contribution after 90 days of employment.
OWA is eager to fill this important role. We will work with the final candidate to select a mutually agreeable start date that would ideally be in early-to-mid November.
