Take Action With Us

PROTECT PROTESTERS

There are currently several anti-protester bills currently moving through the Ohio Statehouse such as Senate Bill 33 (“Critical Infrastructure”), Senate Bill 16 (“Blocking Road/Sidewalks"), House Bill 109 (“Blocking Road/Sidewalks, Organization Liability"), Senate Bill 41 ("Restitution"), and House Bill 22 ("Obstruction of Justice").

Without protests, demonstrations, boycotts, and other forms of direct action, many social justice wins would never have come to be. Generation after generation, public protest has achieved important social change, from labor laws to the civil rights movement of the 60s to expanding equal rights for queer folks. Protest is a critical piece of democracy and is an important part of our shared history. Restricting the right to protest is an attack on all freedom fighters and our ancestors.

ABOLISH THE DEATH PENALTY

Bills to abolish of Death Penalty, also known as House Bill 183 and Senate 103, were introduced in their respective legislative bodies on March 2, 2021. The House bill was introduced by Representatives Jean Schmidt  and  Adam Miller in the Criminal Justice Committee.  The Senate bill was introduced by Senators Nickie Anotio and Steve Huffman and was introduced to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Both bills have bipartisan support.

Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund supports both bills for the abolishment of the death penalty. We are an organization rooted in full liberation with a deep investment that we must stop all forms of state-sanctioned violence, including the current authority that the State of Ohio possesses to kill a human. As a reproductive justice organization, we acknowledge this is only the beginning of what full liberation looks like in the state of Ohio and for the complete elimination of all forms of state-sanctioned violence.

Tune into the hearing tomorrow.

DEMAND ACCURATE HISTORY

The Ohio House introduced House Bill 322, the Anti-Critical Race Theory Bill, on May 25, 2021, by Representative Don Jones and over 20 Republican co-sponsors. The bill was accepted on June 10th, 2021 to the State and Local Government Committee. This bill co-opts and weaponizes the research of professors and scholars that co-founded the field of Critical Race Theory.

The Ohio Women's Alliance and The Ohio Women's Alliance Action Fund stand staunchly against House Bill 322, better known as Anti-Critical Race Theory Bill because the history, the lived experience, and the current social, political and racial justice uprising led by people of color, especially Black women and young folks, are valid, accurate, and deserve placement within our Ohio schools curriculum.
