Invest in Black Women’s Leadership
Dear Friends,
Oppressive institutions that built America were never designed for Black, Indigenous, People of Color, women, or gender-expansive people to have power, yet we persevered. And just like our ancestors, we will pour into ourselves and each other and build our own systems that work for us all.
Once again, white women across the nation voted for their right to abortion while also voting to re-elect Donald Trump, sacrificing Black and Brown communities to protect white supremacy.
Abortion protections outperformed Harris in every state where they were on the ballot: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, and South Dakota.
White women didn’t include Black women in the suffrage movement, and they still discard our humanity with their vote. If your vote is only rooted in your self-interest, you’re not fighting for the right to bodily autonomy; you’re compliant with violence and white supremacy. We will never build trust until white women stop espousing a “feminism” rooted in power over Black and Brown people, and the first step to dismantling white supremacy and ending fascism is to trust Black women and follow our lead.
We will always protect and save ourselves, and we are grateful to our allies who have stood with us and understand that our vision for liberation includes all of us.
