We Didn’t Take a Recess

This week the Ohio Legislature comes back after their summer recess. With their return, they bring the threat of ongoing anti-protester, anti-abortion, anti-voter legislation--not to mention insanely gerrymandered GOP-drawn districts.

The good news is this: Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund did not take a recess. We’re still here, ready to fight these attacks - now more than ever.

BLACK WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE FOR VOTING RIGHTS

With 16 panelists including Representatives Howse and Galonski, we held a Black Women’s Roundtable for Voting Rights on September 1st and discussed the current voter suppression bills facing Ohio, the redistricting process, and how to support our champion legislators as they fight against voter suppression bills. Check out the replay here!

VOTER OUTREACH IN CD 11

We worked with Black women on the ground in Cleveland to  get folks out to vote in the Congressional District 11 primary special election - making more than 100,000 calls to voters! We regranted more than $20,000 to Black-led organizations that worked to ensure voter turnout was high in this special primary and that our voices are heard through our newly launched Super PAC, Ohio Women Rising.

CANDIDATE STORYTELLING

We told the stories of women of color running for office through our digital Candidate Storytelling program in collaboration with LEAD Ohio. You can catch the replays on our YouTube Channel + don’t miss our next Livestream interview on our Facebook page!

ABORTION SPEAKOUT

We launched our first Abortion Speak Out program with our partners at URGE Ohio, Women Have Options Ohio and Apocalipstick that held space for people to share their personal stories, celebrate body positivity and share about reproductive justice. We created a community-centric LGBTQIA inclusive space where we are continuing to build a culture of self-determination, empathy, and justice to support access to abortion.

MAP-DRAWING FOR REDISTRICTING

The redistricting process really started to move quickly and we worked with the Equal Districts Coalition to collect 40 maps, crowdsourced from 30+ Ohio residents! Demand that the Redistricting Coalition do their job and give us fair and equal maps!

This work is  made possible by our generous supporters like you. Chip in $21 as we continue to build together to wrap up 2021. We know it’s been a tough year but these moments of success and community keep us going.

Interested in getting more involved with Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund? Make sure you’re a member of our Cooperative to stay up to date and in the know as these projects move forward!
