Voter Registration Ambassador Fellowship

Position Summary: 

If you are someone who identifies as black, values aligned with the RJ framework’s comprehensive approach to wellness, and can make a part-time commitment of 10 hours per week, we strongly encourage you to apply! 

Under the direction of the Senior Campaign Manager, the Voter Registration Ambassadors will facilitate our voter registration campaign for Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund. The goals of the Ambassador role are to engage community members around voter registration, build relationships with LGBTQ+ affirming Black business owners & their consumers, and co-facilitate virtual and in-person public events. This role works closely with the Sr. Campaign Manager to build political power throughout the state for Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund.


Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Attend all necessary training sessions

  • Register new voters & update registrations with the support of QR codes and public events

  • Accurately record data from voter registrations, events, and partnership engagement

  • Develop and/or maintain professional relationships with community members, leaders, and organizations that share progressive values

  • Identify and manage relationships with 2 local, LGBTQ+ affirming black businesses, called Voter Registration Embassies, to partner with for the duration of the campaign

  • Hold in-person office hours at each Voter Registration Embassy to assist customers with completing or updating their voter registration

  • Offer entry-level VR training for partner business staff members

  • Co-curate and host events at partner businesses to engage community members

  • Co-host public events with partner organizations and be consulted during curation as necessary for cultural competency (not responsible for primary event curation duties)

Qualifications:

  • Shares the progressive values of Reproductive Justice, Health, & Rights

  • Past experience in a customer service role

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work well independently and cohesively with a team

  • Comfort with public speaking and/or willingness to develop this skill

  • Accuracy with data input and record-keeping 

  • Moderate understanding of Google suite, including Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Drive

  • Experience with any of the following platforms is a plus, though not required (training will be provided): ThruTalk; Slack; VAN/miniVAN

Start Date, Compensation & Benefits

This is a hybrid position with some work being remote and some work requiring travel to mandatory staff gatherings, in-person events, and/or office hours. Our candidates must live in Ohio as we are hiring multiple Ambassadors in key cities; Cincinnati (2), Cleveland (1), Columbus (2), Dayton (1), and Akron (1). OWA is eager to fill these important roles and plans to complete the hiring process by May 6th. The training and onboarding process will begin Monday, May 16th; training will be virtual and include the Senior Campaign Manager, Deputy Director, and leaders from trusted partner organizations.

The hourly rate for this position is $15. This is a part-time position based on an 8-10 hour workweek. The work for this position has flexible hours that will be set by the Ambassador(s) of each city and guided by the Sr Campaign Manager; work will primarily take place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm EST, but there will be evening and weekend hours needed to accommodate attendance/management at events.
